As part of its ongoing efforts to modernize the transport system and improve fleet efficiency, a delegation from the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, headed by H.E. Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs, conducted a field visit to several bus manufacturing plants in the People’s Republic of China. The visit reflects the Authority’s commitment to adopting the latest global technologies in sustainable transportation and aligning with Sharjah’s forward-looking vision. The delegation began its tour at the King Long factory to observe the production stages of electric buses. During the visit, they verified that the prototype met the technical specifications previously defined by the Authority. The prototype was approved, and the manufacturing of 10 new electric buses was officially authorized. These new buses will join the current fleet, which already includes 10 electric buses efficiently operating on intercity routes. This step underscores the Authority’s commitment to green mobility and its adoption of eco-friendly solutions that support sustainable development in the emirate. The tour also included a visit to the Yutong factory, one of the largest specialized bus manufacturers, where a diesel bus model was approved after passing compliance checks. Approval was granted to proceed with the production of 9 new diesel buses, bringing the total number of this type in the Authority’s fleet to 39. During the visit, the delegation reviewed the latest technologies used in the manufacturing and operation of electric buses, including driving simulations and lab-based performance testing. These insights support data-driven decision-making and precise technical evaluation. H.E. Abdulaziz Al Jarwan emphasized that these visits are part of the Authority’s strategic plan to upgrade the fleet and enhance operational efficiency in line with environmental sustainability goals, while ensuring the provision of advanced, safe transport services that meet the aspirations of Sharjah’s residents and visitors. The newly approved buses are expected to arrive in July, marking a significant addition to the fleet and a key step forward in the ongoing development of the emirate’s public transport sector.
