RTA Sharjah builds, develops new road against Dh14m
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah, in a bid to boost traffic flow and ensure
students’ convenience, has built and developed a new road against Dh14 million.
The key road, extending from the Martyr Sultan bin Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi Square to the
entrance of the University of Sharjah, Al Dhaid branch, has been thoroughly opened for traffic,
according to a senior official.
Eng. Fatima Al Kitbi, Deputy Director of the Roads Projects Department, said the two-way road
extends over a total area of 2.1km. “The construction and development works stand at Dh14
million.”
The road works, also meant to enhance public safety and security, are in line with the
directions of His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme
Council and Ruler of Sharjah, she added.
“The ongoing and planned road works will help ease the daily transport hassles and improve the
existing roads for the benefit and safety of road users.”
“These critical works will also enhance the civilized image of the emirate, considering the fact
that the authority has already repaired and remarked all the major roads of the emirate.”
Explaining, she said the arterial road, spanning two lanes in each direction, is 7.3m wide with
a 4.6m middle road island, and 2.5m asphalt head shoulders in each direction, and a 2.5m
pedestrian crossing on the road side.
“These are apart from special entrances to ease entry and exit to and from the Seed Bank and
Herbarium, and Desert Park Centres.”
RTA Sharjah has further finished all the service works due, and built a rainwater drainage
network, she elaborated. “We have also installed lamp posts on both sides of the road, and
served a 27m wide green area on the sides of the road.”
