SRTA Received 265K Phone Calls Sharjah Roads & Transport Authority (SRTA) transported 27 Million
Passengers through the Last Year
Last year, Sharjah Roads & Transport Authority (SRTA) was able to transport up to 27 million and
233 thousand passengers through its fleet roaming across the cities and regions of the Emirate
and received about 265 thousand and 919 calls, while the bookings on the smart applications
reached nearly 11,389 bookings and the number of inquiries dealt with by the SRTA’s departments
received from different cities and regions of the Emirate 34,819 inquiries.
Furthermore, the fleet of the SRTA operated in the office of the Sharjah International Airport
succeeded in transporting 225 thousand passengers in 150 thousand trips, while the number of
trips completed by the fleet of taxis operating under the Emtyz system (Franchise System)
reached 14 million and 356 thousand trips.
The SRTA continues its relentless efforts to improve its services in various sectors based on
the directions of the Sharjah Government, in a way that meets the needs of its customers,
fulfils its service and community role and keep keeps pace with the massive urban development
witnessed by the Emirate in several fields.
His Excellency, Eng. Yousef Al-Suwaiji, the Chairman of SRTA, said that the competent
Departments of the SRTA are fulfilling the roles conferred upon them according to the highest
international standards and regulations, particularly those related to the operations of
passenger transport, handling the violations and responding to all inquiries received by the
customers, with a view to provide them with the highest degrees of comfort in order to enable
them to use all the services provided by SRTA.
His Excellency, Engineer Al-Suwaiji, confirmed that SRTA is committed to implementing the plans
and directions of the Sharjah Government pertaining to the roads and transport sectors and reach
the satisfaction of the customers, by the continuously updating and developing its departments
from time to time and keeping up with every update on the field based on the directions of His
Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council, the
Sovereign Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and the follow-up by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan
bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, the Crown Prince of Sharjah, the Deputy Ruler of the Emirate
of Sharjah and the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate.
In his statement, His Excellency revealed that, after reviewing the results achieved by SRTA in
the operations in the transportations sector in the previous year, the competent departments in
the SRTA have succeeded in transporting 27 million and 233 passengers through its fleet across
the cities and regions of Sharjah, highlighting that this is considered a new addition to the
SRTA’s achievements in the transportations sector, particularly in light of the tremendous
developments this sector have witnessed recently.
Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of the Authority for Transportation Affairs, stated that
throughout the previous year, the fleet of taxis operated by way of franchise comprising Sharjah
Taxi, Emirates Taxi, Etihad Taxi and City Taxi was able to transport 21 million and 534 thousand
passengers in 14 million and 356 trips, while the total number of users of the public
transportations network comprising 12 lines within Sharjah City reached 3,405,480 passengers and
the number of trips completed 338 thousand and 358 trips. The Director also announced the
launching of 110 new buses, supplied with the best state-of-art technology in the operations of
passenger transport.
Al Jarwan added that during this period, the communication center in SRTA was able to handle
over 265 thousand and 919 phone calls from the customers. This included 145 thousand and 322
phone calls to book a public means of transportations, 7371 phone calls to book taxis for people
with special needs, 2081 phone calls to book ladies taxis and 11 thousand and 156 phone calls to
book family taxis. He also indicated that the total number of bookings on smart applications
reached 11,389 bookings, including 5,157 bookings in Sharjah City and 6,232 bookings in the
eastern and central regions, thorough 62 devices spread across the cities and regions of
Sharjah.
As regards the inquiries received by the customers, Al Jarwan said that 34 thousand and 819
inquiries were handled. In addition to that, 14,092 permits were issued, 1,320 transactions
related to violations were processed and 6,517 road transactions were made.
As for the violations of the illegal operation of vehicles, the Director of Transport Affairs
said that in the previous year, the Violation Section in the Department of Transport Activities
Control managed to execute 11 inspection campaigns through 20 quality officers, whom are granted
the capacity of Judicial Police by virtue of the Resolution of the Minister of Justice. These
campaigns, which took place in the workers residences and the regions filled with international
markets such as Al-Rolla, Jubail, Al-Sajaa and the market area in Al-Dhaid, in addition to other
industrial regions around the Emirate, resulted in issuing 1,520 violations, each present
violation reported for the first time, according to the Director, cost about five thousand
dirhams, and in the case of a repeat violation, the fine costs about ten thousand dirhams.
Furthermore, the violating vehicles and drivers are advised by the certified traffic systems in
the UAE to make the payments in the established legal ways.
Al Jarwan also revealed that as regards the inter-city transport during this period, SRTA
succeeded in transporting two million and 256 thousand passengers in 164 thousand and 130 trips
through 12 lines all over the Emirate of Sharjah, emphasizing that the competent bodies on a
real-time basis sanitize the stations and buses daily and regularly in order to ensure the
safety of all passengers.
In a similar context, the Director of Transport Affairs affirmed the commitment of his
Department to provide the best services for the users of the public transportation in a manner
that enables them to move safely and comfortably without facing any difficulties. He also
indicated that the Quality Control Section was able to issue 5,220 violations, through 20 field
observers working in shifts.
Additionally, according to the Director, SRTA finished activating the issuance of permits for
practicing the school transport service and field observance by virtue of the Resolution issued
by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council
No. (17) of 2019 on regulations of the school transport service in the Emirate of Sharjah and
the Resolution of the esteemed Executive Council No. (26) of 2020 on fees and fines of the
school transport as the current school year of 2020/2021 starts, indicating that 247 review
notices were issued, resulting in total in correcting the situations of 150 cases and issuing 97
violations due to the non-compliance with the procedures and instructions stipulated on the
school transport service promulgated by SRTA.
In regards to the violations of the quality, Al Jarwan said that the number of violations
registered in this regard reached 45 violations, while the violations of the illegal operation
of vehicles in the eastern region were nearly 48 violations and the total number of Taxi Butlers
reached (10) devices spread in the vital regions. Al Jarwan added that the total number of
bookings made through the e-device were nearly 521 bookings, while the total number of taxi
bookings reached during this period 6,388 requests and the number of permits for permanent and
temporary transport services were 203 transactions.
Al Jarwan stated that the office serving the users of the Sharjah International Airport
affiliated to SRTA witnessed a significant demand by the customers throughout the last year and
until now, as the total number of customers reached 225 thousand passengers in 150 thousand
trips.
As regards the maritime transport, Al Jarwan said that total number of users of maritime
transport service “Ferry” between Sharjah and Dubai throughout January, February and March of
the previous year reached 37,446 passengers.
